Using Windows?
If you are using Windows, have a think about the following questions:
- Is your Windows system reliable enough?
- Do you find it crashes or "freezes" often?
- Do you find it slows down after a while?
- Having paid for your Windows system, do you resent paying more for applications (like Office), anti virus and anti spam software and other security software?*
If the answer to any of the above is "Yes", then perhaps you may want to look at alternatives.
An increasing popular choice is the Linux (or more formally GNU/Linux) operating system, particularly Ubuntu, as a replacement for Windows on server, deskop and laptop systems. There are several advantages to the Linux operating system over Windows (and to a lesser extent Mac systems). The whylinuxisbetter.net site explains it very well. Linux is more than suitable for both business and home use, and will happily work with any existing Windows systems, including the sharing of data. Most "distributions" (or "distros" as they have become known) - companies or organisations that bundle the Linux operating systems with their own application and utility software - can be tried without installing any software or data on your computer, by downloading and burining your own "Live CD". Of course data created by Windows systems can easily be opened, edited, saved, converted and manipulated by Linux applications - and vice-versa! lidd Consulting is a Linux specialist and can install, configure, maintain, manage and upgrade new and existing Linux systems, and can even get both Windows and Linux systems to co exist and enable data to be read and written to by either system. Contact lidd Consulting for more information or to arrange a demonstration, either by email, or by using the Contact page. You can also try Linux yourself by downloading and burning your own "Live CD" from the Ubuntu website. Have fun! Note: lidd Consulting is not in any way affiliated or sponsored by Ubuntu, Canonical (the Ubuntu Linux distribution sponsor), Debian or any other Linux distribution. lidd Consulting is a totally independant IT consultancy practice with a specialism in Linux.
